Welcome

Costa Ricato the Spa College February Newsletter. We're looking forward into this new year and we know already that there will have to be substantial changes in many areas.

We are experiencing an economical cleansing and technology is substantially changing the way we interact and design our lives as it takes hold in mainstream behavior patterns.

Change is necessary more than ever and the willingness to flow with the change will decide over success or failure. Some proven principles will remain but new requirements are upon us whether they are taking steps to quickly align with ecological necessities or adopting new platforms of communication. Join us for interactive discussions and information sharing on our Facebook Group:

News Cast: We have started filling the 2009 workshop calendar with courses in Costa Rica and Indonesia. If you are a facilitator and offer workshops that are aligned with our mission you could be invited to present them here at Spa College. Please contact us: director@spa-college.com

Hope to hear from you soon. Nicolay - editor at large

Think Holistically - by Lauriann Greene CEAS

Lauriann has been a leading writer, speaker and researcher on injury prevention for manual therapists since 1995. She studied at Brown and Harvard Universities and attended the Mannes College of Music before graduating in 1993 from Seattle Massage School. As a former professional orchestral conductor and pianist, Lauriann was interested in working with other musicians to reduce playing-related upper extremity injury. This interest led her to write an article on musculoskeletal disorders among musicians that appeared in Massage Therapy Journal in 1994.

Lauriann used this research, as well as her own experience with work-related injury, to develop the "Save Your Hands!" workshops for massage therapists. Between 1993 and 2003, she taught these injury prevention workshops to hundreds of students and professionals across the United States and Canada. Based on the anecdotal evidence she obtained from workshop participants, and existing research on musculoskeletal disorders, she wrote the first edition of Save Your Hands! When it was published in 1995, Save Your Hands! was the first comprehensive book on injury prevention and treatment written for manual therapists.

The Healing Sound of Love- by Ashana

Classically trained, Ashana graduated with a degree in vocal studies from the Mannes College of Music in New York City, and for years performed as soloist and ensemble member in New York’s early music scene. Moving from ancient to contemporary, she immersed herself in theater, jazz, pop and children’s music as performer, recording artist, songwriter and teacher.

For the last decade, she has been involved in a deeply personal exploration of sound healing and vocal toning, during which period she discovered and began playing quartz crystal singing bowls, instruments that are often used in contemplative practices to support healing, balance and well-being.

“For me, singing is a life path, a spiritual journey that has led to the very core of my being,” says Ashana. “Music can transport us, lift us to the place where we gently let go and open completely to receive and remember the divine heart that lives within each one of us, that truly lives in all beings. I have seen, felt and been utterly transformed by the power of sound and music to heal; it is a gift to us from the Source of Love – it is total, pure Grace.”
